The Drive of Life thoughts

I just finished watching episode 30; half the series is done already. Time goes by soo fast. So much has happened, but the drama has just started! I can't wait to see Sau Fung seeking revenge against the Wah family.

Here are some thoughts on the main characters:

Wah Zhen Pong
I really liked how Zhen Pong went from a 'yi sai jo' to this really mature guy (Not to mention the change of hairstyle! No offence, but I like it straight better. Ray looked like a baby with curly hair). His ways of proposing to Sau Fung are rather interesting. For one, no ring! The second time he proposed was odd too. He kept on trying to kiss her, in public.

Wing Sau Fung
There were little scenes of her since I last wrote my thoughts. In episode 29, she proved to Zhen Pong that Bing Yi was 'um luen gun' (crushing on) him. It's so true though. I felt so bad for Bing Yi; she seemed so down, and it was her birthday! Anyway, on to episode 30. Her romantic scenes with Zhen Pong were awesome, except I don't think they should have played the subtheme during those moments. Such a sad song for a happy moment!

What I really enjoyed was the last scene. After Ms. Wah's confession, the camera zoomed into Sau Fung's face, and you can see confusion, shock and anger written all over her face. Good acting, Charmaine!

Ngai Tin Hang
Not much to say about him, except the constant urge to slap him. Am I suppose to sympathize with him later on in the series?

The other characters...I really don't have much to say. Fung Pong forever! (Even though they're going to split up soon...maybe next episode?)

My favourite scenes:
  1. Bing Yi's birthday. Bing Yi was so excited to have a one-on-one dinner with Zhen Pong, then Sau Fung shows up with the cake. You could see how Bing Yi's expression turns from happiness, to shock and finally to sadness. It was a really cruel trick, in my opinion. Tsk tsk, Sau Fung!

  2. The last scene. Just those few seconds of Sau Fung's face tells it all. As I said before, excellent acting by Charmaine! Powerful scene without words.
Peace v^^

Gathering the points from http://seventh-day.50webs.com/, I have come to this synopsis:

'The Seventh Day' is about two people born on the same day, but lead very different lives. The two male leads, Kevin Cheng and Bosco Wong, play two characters that were born on August 7 (the year remains unknown). Kevin's character,
游志穎 (Yau Ji Wing), is a careless, uninhibited lifeguard without a steady occupation, while Bosco's character is a CEO of a coffee shop. Their storylines will be seperate though.

Selena will play Wing's ex, who has AIDS and is suicidal (At one point in the story, Wing will have to fly over to Japan to her). Nikki's character, a pet shop salesperson, has never experience love before, because her family is overprotective of her (
she has congenital heart disease, a terminal illness). One day, Wing rescues her and she falls for him. (Thus resulting in a love triangle: Selena - Kevin - Nikki.)

Bosco's character first pursues Natalie's character because he thinks that she is rich, but later finds out that she is only a fishmonger. Their love story will be happier and more light-hearted than Nikki's and Kevin's.

My Thoughts:

My first reaction when I first found out that this was coming was: OMG, A KEVIN AND NIKKI STORY! YAY!

I must confess; I'm a sucker for love stories. The first time I saw Kevin and Nikki together was in 'Under the Canopy of Love,' and their chemistry was great there. Sources say 'The Seventh Day' will be even more romantic than UTCOL, so I really can't wait for this to come out. I find the idea of two people being born on the same day, but leading very different lives to be a refreshing. I don't think TVB has ever used this idea before. I wonder how they link the two storylines together though..

(Taelin must admit that the English title for this series is one of the closest titles TVB has ever made up that is almost identical to the Chinese title. If only they called it: 'The Most Beautiful Seventh Day' (like the theme song), then it would have been identical!)

As for the poster...it's so pretty!

I find Bosco's position weird though. (Is he trying to strangle Natalie??) Well, he did that to Tavia in HOG too.. Anyway, they're both smiling, and their background is a Fall background, which makes it seem that their story is happier. (Which is true.)

Kevin and Nikk's expressions are a bit more solemn, which reflect on their story. The winter background adds to that too.

CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS TO COME OUT!

Me wanting Linda Chung in DOL

If you have seen the "Drive of Life," you will know that Wing Sau Fung is CBC (Chinese born Canadian), and Wah Ching Ling went to school in Canada.

When I saw episode 20, Charmaine asked why her mom was in jail, and kept on yelling she was innocent in English (A Charmaine fan I may be, but her English is horrible...). Why, Wing Sau Fung, do you have such bad English? You may say she lived in Hong Kong for a long time, but that's no excuse!
  • You were born and raised in Canada! I wasn't born in Canada (though raised) and my English is better than yours. Sau Fung should have flawless English if she lived her whole life here (before 1993 ish, that is).
That suddenly made me think of a Heart of Greed episode I had watched. Linda was trying to sell her stuff that her brother left behind in his shop, and she was yelling for people to buy them in English. Her English was perfect! (Well, of course, she was raised in Vancouver...not so sure about being born here though..) Made me think...maybe Linda could have played Wing Sau Fung?

After thinking that...I slapped myself. Wing Sau Fung is 24-36(?) years old throughout the "Drive of Life." No way Linda could play that old; her voice is another matter.

Dun dun dun...Linda could have played Wah Ching Ling! Her English is better than Toby's, and her acting is so much better too. Unfortunately, not everyone's father is a top TVB producer (I think he's a producer...or was he an executive?).

Could have been...but didn't. At least Linda was awesome in "Heart of Greed"...

The Drive of Life Sub - Love searching for you in my memory

Title: 愛在記憶中找你 /Love searching for you in memory
Singer: Raymond Lam

repeat *x2

我情願我狠心憎你
我還在記憶中找你

Lyrics translation

Me and you
How to compare in this lifetime
Me and you
Almost be together forever
The time and place we unexpectedly meet
Is like a drama
Doesn't know where to start

Love is too heavy
Not enough air to breathe in
Love is too beautiful
Lightly yet unable to carry it
When love arrived
It's just like a beautiful weather
When love is gone
It suddenly changed into blizzard rainstorm

*If I could hate you
Painfully hate you with all my strength
Hiding and evading when we encounter
It's because wanting to let you go
But still missing you
Who is more miserable than I am
Fearing being reminded of the past
No matter how hard the arms are stretched
There is still distance between us*

You are far away
How to say I'm sorry
You are very near
Yet suddenly left in split second
Maybe happiness is too brief
Like a meteor shower
In a blink of the eye
Feels like a mirage yet afraid to remember

Repeat * x2

I rather heartlessly hate you
I'm still searching for you in my memories

What can I say? I totally fell in love with this song from the moment I heard it. Plus, it's a Ray song!

Back on track. The lyrics are nicely put and are rather refreshing (unlike those cheesy love songs HK has these days...). In the first stanza, Ray sing about how Zhen Pong and Sau Fung meet by chance, and instantly change each other's world forever. The second stanza is my favourite; I love how it sounds so poetic in Chinese, but so crappy in English.

The chorus is what set this song apart from all those other love songs I have heard. Never have I heard a song in which the speaker loves the person s/he is speaking too, but rather hate than love them. It's depressing, but refreshing as well. Not a genre people usually venture into. The first line projects so much power, yet grief and sadness (okay, maybe it was a bit of Ray's voice too).

I'm just going to skip the stanza after that, because my opinion of it is pretty much the same as the first stanza. It does sound so much better in Chinese than English though. The last two lines were one of the most memorable lines for me: (in fact, one of the only lines I know from memory! PS: my Chinese sucks.)
我情願我狠心憎你
我還在記憶中找你
I just loved those two lines...I don't know why, but I do. No words can describe it =D

Well, that's all for today!

The thoughts of a very bored highschooler during summer

Wow..I finally stopped being lazy and actually looked at my own blog. What a surprise to see you post in my comment box, Sehseh!

Anyway, this is what my bored mind was thinking of earlier today:
  • take over the world! (Nah, too much work)
  • practice piano and violin! (too lazy, and I just had my lesson)
  • watch Heart of Greed! (which I was...well, I had finished all the episodes I had downloaded, and my internet froze, so I had to restart my computer!)
Which brings me to the present time, writing rubbish (eh, I meant garbage...*slaps self* too much Harry Potter!) on this blog of mine.

Since I'm already here typing, I might as well express some thoughts (that are exploding in my head) about the Vancouver scenes in "The Drive of Life." (well, up to episode 14, at least) I notice these things because I'm bored, and I'm from the Greater Vancouver area (go ahead, try and stalk me xD).
  1. When Sheren and Michael were done shopping at Osaka (no, it wasn't T&T, it was Osaka, since the parking lot is of Yohan Centre), in the background, you could see the new Aberdeen (spelling?) Centre. If I remember clearly, it wasn't finished building until after 2000, and the scene took place in 1996, I think. Picky, I know, but hey, it's my blog!

  2. Sheren buying a lot of toilet paper! That scene was hilarious, but so true. I don't know why, but parents around here love to stock up on toilet paper (my mom has a whole closet filled with them). Even if they have a lot at home, they still buy...like...at least 2 more big packs if it's cheap. Parents...

  3. Sheren's constant whining about how much better it was in Hong Kong than Vancouver. *rolls eyes* She sounded like my grandfather whenever she whines about it. If you wanted a place where rich people are stuck up, go to the England! (no offense to the Brits) Like c'mon, Vancouver's not exactly the place where you can tell if a person's rich or not just by looking at them (unless that person is from China or something...again, no offense to the Chinese in China). Like my mom says, she knows this lawyer that wears a t-shirt and shorts to work!

  4. Sheren's got a fricken big house and she's whining about how poor she is. 1996 was one of the years where Vancouver's house prices rose like crazy (I think). She's got herself a house with a BEAUTIFUL view and she's complaining...like c'mon! I live in a duplex with a view of the house across from us, and I'm not complaining.
*sigh* Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.

As of now, my brain is not working once more, so I shall end my rant here!

Toodles! (WOAH, TOO GIRLY, TAELIN!)

Taelin v^^
